Those Beachy Waves

You can take all the time in the world to put together the perfect outfit, but if you don’t have the hair-do to go with it, the outfit will remain incomplete. Your hair frames your face and therefore can change a look very quickly. Different styles give off different vibes. Summer is fast approaching (thank goodness) and it’s time to rock those beachy waves to spice things up a bit. This hairstyle provides an effortless look that can be worn with just about anything; an oxford and chinos, a Lilly dress, or even business attire. I thought I would provide a super quick and easy tutorial you can try out or experiment with. I know I want to try something different this summer and this might just be it!

I find it almost impossible to get my hair to hold curl, so it almost always ends up looking like I’m going for beachy waves. It is best to use a smaller flat iron (1/2” to 1” tends to work best) and a little bit of textured hairspray (gel and mousse products don’t work well for me, but it’s all in preference). Wella Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray is pictured below, but there is a large variety of products that would work. First start off by combing your hair and picking up a random sized piece of hair (a medium to small clump is best). Next clamp this piece in the straightener at the roots of your hair. Turn your wrist like you’re turning your car on (away from you 180 degrees) and hold it there. After a few seconds or when you think it’s had enough time, release your hold on the clamp a little and move the iron down to where the edge of the last curl was. Clamp down and twist towards you 180 degrees this time. This should give the effect of a zig-zagged wave. Continue this motion down the rest of the strand of hair until you have about an inch left; don’t curl the last inch so it remains straight. The zig-zags don’t need to be super tight with straight lines in your hair; the looser the better. Continue ‘curling’ the rest of your head, but be sure to use different sized clumps of hair so there’s variety and it doesn’t look too structured.

Once your whole head is full of waves, brush your fingers through your hair and move pieces around until it has a tousled effect. Give your hair a good douse of the textured hairspray and before it sets, continue to run your fingers through your hair. By the end of this exercise, the hair should look wavy. As the day continues, the curl will fall a little more and it will look even better. Another way you could accomplish this look is by showering before bed and putting your hair in two separate braids while it’s still wet. When you wake up in the morning, your hair should have a little bit of wave to it and you can use the same textured spray or something a little lighter to hold the curl for the rest of the day.
I hope this tutorial wasn’t too confusing, but I think it does provide a very simple approach to spicing up your hairstyle. Let me know if the comments below if you tried it out and how it worked as well as if you would like more tutorials of sorts! Thanks lovelies!
